This tool does not replace accredited calibration or type testing. Its output is a calculation, not a certificate. Decisions about whether an instrument may be used for radiation protection remain the responsibility of the organisation making them.

What this is not

RadiMeter is a website and a calculation tool. It is not a testing laboratory and offers no testing service. No instrument is received, no measurement is made here, and no report is issued on anyone's behalf. The word "lab" in the name refers to the workbench you are using, not to an accredited facility. If you need an accredited result, a calibration laboratory recognised in your jurisdiction has to produce it.

Function of the tool

You enter reference values and indications. It computes mean values, response, relative response, coefficient of variation and combined standard uncertainty, and compares each result with an acceptance criterion you can edit. That is the whole of it. It does not measure anything, it does not know whether your reference field is traceable, and it cannot tell whether the numbers you typed are the numbers your instrument produced.

Exclusion of measurement uncertainty from the verdict

Each Pass or Fail compares the computed value against the acceptance limit directly. The uncertainty shown alongside a result is reported for information; it is not applied to the decision rule. A value that sits just inside a limit may fall outside it once the uncertainty of your reference field is taken into account, and a formal conformity assessment would have to say so. If you need a decision rule with a guard band, that judgement is yours to make outside this tool.

Accuracy of the calculation

The calculation engine is checked on every change against a fixed set of reference vectors, so the arithmetic is reproducible and does not drift between versions. That is a statement about the arithmetic, not a warranty about your results. The methods are implemented from our own reading of the published test procedures; where a clause admits more than one reasonable reading, we have had to choose one. If a result looks wrong to you, it may be — please tell us, and check it against the standard.

Requirement to obtain the standard

This site cites clause numbers of the IEC standards it describes and states the methods in its own words. It does not reproduce the text or the tables of any of them, and it is not a substitute for reading them. To perform these tests properly you must obtain the standard that applies to your instrument from its publisher or an authorised distributor, along with the reference-radiation standards it depends on.

Independence from standards bodies

RadiMeter is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, certified by or connected to the IEC, the ISO, or any national standards or accreditation body. Nothing here carries their authority.

Safety-related use

Radiation measuring instruments are used to protect people. Do not treat a Pass from this tool as permission to put an instrument into service, and do not treat a Fail as proof that an instrument is defective. Both are inputs to a decision that a competent person has to make, using calibrated reference fields and the applicable regulatory requirements.
