RadCalc produces indicative figures for orientation and cross-checking. They do not replace an accredited calibration, a shielding design, a dose assessment, a radiation survey, or the judgement of a qualified radiation protection professional. Decisions affecting the safety of people must rest on measurements and on assessments made by someone competent and accountable for them.
Every result carries assumptions
Each calculator states the geometry and the physical assumptions it applies. Those assumptions are simplifications of real situations. A point-source dose rate does not describe an extended source. Attenuation without buildup underestimates. An empirical range formula carries about ten percent uncertainty. Where an assumption dominates the answer, the calculator says so on the page rather than in a footnote.
Data and accuracy
Nuclear and attenuation data come from IAEA and NIST as described under Methods and data. Evaluated data are revised over time and different compilations differ. The computed values are tested against published figures and agree within the tolerances stated there, but no warranty of accuracy, fitness for any purpose, or freedom from error is given.
No relationship with standards bodies
RadCalc and Radiation Lab are independent. They are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or accredited by the IAEA, NIST, the IEC, the ISO, or any regulatory authority. References to published standards are made for identification only, and no text or table from any standard is reproduced here.
