Terms of use
These tools compute numbers. They do not make decisions, and they are not a substitute for a qualified expert, a calibrated instrument or the standard itself.
What this site is
Radiation Lab publishes computational tools and reference material for radiation science and engineering: dose rate and shielding calculators, instrument performance test worksheets written against IEC standards, and geochemical transport models. It is an independent project by its author and carries no endorsement from the IEC, the IAEA, NIST, or any regulator.
No warranty, and the limit of what a calculator can be
Every result is provided "as is". The constants behind the calculators are computed from open evaluated nuclear data and published attenuation coefficients, and the method behind each number is documented on the site so that it can be checked — but data can be revised, a model has a range of validity, and an input error looks exactly like a valid input to a program.
- Results are estimates for planning and study. They are not a radiation survey, not a dose of record, and not a compliance determination.
- Nothing here replaces measurement with a calibrated instrument, the judgement of a qualified radiation protection professional, or the text of the standard being cited.
- Where a page cites an IEC or other standard, it describes the method in the author's own words. The standard itself is the authority and must be obtained from its publisher.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the author accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from the use of this site or reliance on its output.
Your account and your work
An account is optional. If you create one, keep your sign-in secure and do not share it. You keep whatever rights you have in the data you enter and the content you post; you grant us only the permission needed to store it and show it back to you, and, for community posts, to display it to other users of the relevant laboratory.
Do not post content that is unlawful, infringing, abusive, or that you do not have the right to share. We may remove content or suspend an account that breaks these terms, and we may close an account that is being used to attack or degrade the service.
Acceptable use
- Do not attempt to break, overload, or circumvent access controls on the site or its computation endpoints.
- Do not scrape the site at a rate that interferes with its operation, and do not republish substantial portions of the written material as your own.
- Automated access that respects robots.txt and a reasonable rate is fine.
Intellectual property
The text, layout, figures and code of this site belong to the author unless stated otherwise. The underlying physical data — nuclear decay data, attenuation coefficients — comes from public scientific sources and is not claimed. Product names, standard designations and trademarks mentioned are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification only.
Availability and changes
The site is offered without any uptime commitment and may change or be withdrawn at any time. When these terms change, the date at the top changes with them; continued use after that date is acceptance of the revised terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to conflict of law rules. This does not remove any mandatory consumer protection you have where you live.
