Privacy policy
The short version. What you type into the tools stays in your browser unless you sign in and ask us to keep it. We count page views without planting an identifier on your device. Advertising is served by Google, and that part does use cookies — the section on advertising below says exactly what that means and how to turn the personalised part off.
Who is responsible
Radiation Lab is an independent project run by its author. It is not a company and is not affiliated with the IEC, the IAEA, NIST, or any standards body or regulator. The author is the data controller for the limited processing described here and can be reached at contact@radiation-lab.com.
This policy is the single policy for the whole origin. Each laboratory (RadCalc, RadiMeter, M-Phreefiteq) may publish a page describing details specific to its own tool; where the two differ, the stricter statement applies.
What stays on your device
The calculators and the instrument worksheets run in your browser. Inputs, presets, readings, reference values, acceptance criteria and display settings are written to your browser's local storage and read back from there. Nothing in that list is sent to a server while you are signed out, and exports are generated locally and downloaded straight to your device.
What we collect
Server logs
The site is hosted on Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel records requests — IP address, user agent, the path requested and the time. These logs exist to serve the site and to deal with faults and abuse. We do not use them to build profiles and we do not combine them with anything else. Legal basis: legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
Page-view counting
Opening a page writes one row to our Supabase database: which laboratory and path was opened, and the host name of the site you came from, if any. To avoid counting one reader as many, the server combines your address, your browser string and a secret value that is regenerated every day into a one-way hash, and stores only that hash. The address itself is never stored, and once the day's secret is discarded the hash cannot be reversed. The deliberate cost: returning on another day counts as a new visitor.
This counter plants no cookie and no identifier on your device. If you would rather not be
counted at all, open radiation-lab.com/?rl_nocount=1 once and this
browser is excluded on every page of the site; ?rl_nocount=0 reverses it. That
preference is the only thing the counter ever writes to your device, it is written only because
you asked for it, and it carries no identity.
If you create an account
Reading the site and running the calculators need no account. Signing in is optional and is
offered through Google. We request the email and profile scopes only
and receive your email address and the name on your Google account; we do not touch any other
Google data. If you choose to fill them in, a display name, organisation, job title and role are
also stored, as are any saved results, custom species and community posts you create. One account
covers all laboratories on this origin.
Advertising
No advertising is running on this site today. It is intended to be funded by advertising served through Google AdSense, and this section is written in advance so that the terms are known before the first ad appears rather than after. Everything below applies from the moment an ad is first served:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
- How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent notice before any advertising or analytics cookie is set, and can change or withdraw that choice at any time from the same notice. Declining does not restrict access to any tool on this site.

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with anyone beyond the processors above.
How long it is kept
Server logs follow the host's own retention. Page-view rows keep no reversible identifier and are retained as aggregate history. Account data is kept while the account exists and is deleted on request.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the data held about your account, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for the account and everything attached to it to be deleted. Write to contact@radiation-lab.com; deletion requests are acted on within 30 days. If you are in the EEA or the UK you also have the right to complain to your national supervisory authority.
Children
This site is aimed at professionals and students in radiation protection and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted on the home page.
